Confirmation

Confirmation for Youth

“In the course of their Christian development, those baptized at an early age are expected, when they are ready and have been duly prepared, to make a mature public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their Baptism and to receive the laying on of hands by the bishop.” - Book of Common Prayer, p. 412

In the rite of Confirmation, candidates are asked whether they wish to renew the commitment to Jesus Christ already made, either by the individual or on their behalf, in Baptism. This is a commitment to certain beliefs, namely those expressed in both the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed, but equally it is a commitment to a way of life.

Confirmation class is a process of discernment in which confirmands are encouraged to ask questions, seek answers, and explore their spiritual depths both in community and in quiet reflection and prayer. it is hoped that this journey be a joyful one for all who participate! The Gospel message is one of joy. Confirmands are invited and encouraged to come as they are, to be honest and authentic, and to have fun.

This year’s Confirmation Class is already underway. Please be in touch with Fr. John (jkennedy@stmarksnewcanaan.org) to sign up for next year’s class.
