Coffee Hour

It's Easy to Host

the World's Greatest Coffee Hour!

There’s no better kitchen party than the World’s Greatest Coffee Hour! The coffee hour takes place every Sunday in Morrill Hall following the 10AM service of Holy Eucharist. Please sign up to help host a Coffee Hour by putting your name (together with a friend or family member’s name, if desired) on the sign-up board in Morrill Hall or select one of the below dates to sign up online. Then come to the kitchen by 9AM—9:15AM on the date you sign up for to help prepare and plate the food and stick around to help clean up afterward. No experience or knowledge of the process is necessary! You will be guided along by seasoned fellow hosts, and receive direction from Emily and James Morgan at scrappypickles@gmail.com, our hospitality hosts extraordinaire. Feel free to contact them with questions, or reach out to the Rev. Elizabeth Garnsey at egarnsey@stmarksnewcanaan.org.

You don’t need to be here on Sunday to participate in the World’s Greatest Coffee Hour! When you’re making that soup or casserole for your family, make some extra and drop it off to serve or freeze!

Coffee Hour Compost

As we strive to protect God’s precious creation in these difficult times, we are continuing the process of making St. Mark’s a more sustainable parish. To that end, we are implementing a compostable coffee hour.

Did you know that Americans dispose of 35% of the food we produce? Most of it ends up in landfill, which produces methane gas which is more harmful to the atmosphere than CO2 emissions. In Connecticut, most of our trash is burned, however, the primary incinerator in Hartford has shut down, leaving tons of garbage looking for a home. Some of it has been redirected to landfill. Connecticut residents can help solve this problem and create rich planting soil in the process.

We at St. Mark’s are doing our part. Volunteers will collect food waste at coffee hour and transport it to the transfer station every week.  Come to coffee hour and get literature on how you can enroll in the town composting program or compost your own scrap at home. Let’s teach our children how to create a healthy planet for generations to come.
