God, Grace, and Gumption
What in the world is gumption?
Gumption is exactly what one needs if one is about to begin the stammering, stuttering work of talking about God, which is what 'theology' really is. Led by Father Justin on Tuesday mornings from 11AM-12PM at St. Mark's and online, God, Grace, and Gumption is a class on making theological sense (and making sense of theology).
How do I get in on this gumption thing?
Easy! First of all, take a look at the resources we've got available here on our website. To the left, you'll find links to scheduling and information for whatever course is ongoing this semester (Class Schedule), to our YouTube channel, where you can find regularly posted recordings of Father Justin's lectures (Watch Previous Classes), to a live stream of the class where you can tune in online on Tuesdays from 11AM-12PM (Watch Live), and to a growing archive of God, Grace, and Gumption courses (Online Courses).
Second, pray a little bit, read a little bit, then pray a little bit more. The gumption will get going in no time.
What's going on right now?
This year, in conjunction with our parish-wide exploration of St. Francis, we are diving into the corpus of the most renowned theological and spiritual master of the Franciscan tradition (and so-called 'second founder' of the Order), St. Bonaventure. Bonaventure's theology combines heavy-duty theological speculation with close attention to the spiritual and moral life, all refracted through the life and death of Jesus of Nazareth, especially as appropriated and exemplified in the life of Francis of Assisi. If you're looking for a way to turbo-charge your appreciation of the mysteries of Christ's life—and reflect on how it is that we enter those mysteries for ourselves through his cross, as Francis did—this is the class for you!
It is a great blessing and privilege to share the joy of theological work with you at St. Mark's. Join us!
