DESCRIPTION:The Friends of the Music at St. Mark’s New Canaan\, CT Presents  \nMusic of Benjamin Britten.  Saturday\, April 26\, 2025\, 6pm\, in the soaring mid-century modern St. Mark’s Episcopal Church\, 111 Oenoke Ridge\, New Canaan\, CT. \nPerformed by Trevor Scott\, tenor; with Eliana Barwinski\, mezzo-soprano; Susan LaFever\, French horn; all accompanied by Tomoko Nakayama\, pianist. \nTrevor Scott and friends will perform works of one of the most distinguished composers of the 20th century\, Benjamin Britten.  Included will be Canticle I – My beloved is mine\, and I am his (tenor & piano); Canticle II – Abraham and Isaac (tenor\, mezzo-soprano\, & piano)\, and the extraordinary Serenade (tenor\, horn\, & piano). \nGeneral Admission tickets $30 ($35 day of event) / Students $10  available HERE \n  \nLyric tenor Trevor Scott is currently in his second year of a Masters of Musical Arts degree in Early Music\, Art Song\, and Oratorio\, studying through a degree program sponsored by both the Yale School of Music and Yale Institute of Sacred Music. This past summer\, he was honored to make his professional international operatic debut\, singing with the Danish National Opera in the chorus of Bohuslav Martinů’s The Greek Passion. He was also thrilled to be the tenor soloist in Bach’s Mass in B Minor (presented by Yale’s Schola Cantorum and Juilliard’s J415)\, which toured across England and Scotland. \n   \nEliana Barwinski is a versatile mezzo-Soprano celebrated for her captivating performances and extensive musical expertise. Currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Religion and Music at Yale University’s Institute of Sacred Music\, Barwinski has completed two years of her DM in Voice Performance from Indiana University and graduated with an MM and BM in Voice Performance with honors from the University of Michigan. Eliana’s stage presence spans a variety of roles\, from Tebro in “O come e chiare e belle” to Alto soloist in Bach’s St. John’s Passion\, and has been showcased on both national and international stages. \n  \nHorn player Susan LaFever: New York City freelancer Susan LaFever was reviewed by the New York Times\, where her playing was called “bold and striking” with “a confident lyric quality”.  She is a frequent recitalist and soloist and has toured the U.S.\, Europe\, Mexico and Asia. Susan has given master classes at the University of Iowa\, Western Illinois University\, and UC\, Santa Barbara and has presented clinics and performances at several Northeast Horn Workshops\, the International Women’s Brass Conference\, the International Horn Symposium\, and the National Flute Association Convention. She has degrees in performance from Union College\, University of Nebraska\, and Manhattan School of Music. \n  \nPianist Tomoko Nakayama\, a native of Japan\, holds a Bachelor of Music in Harpsichord Performance and a Master of Music in Collaborative Piano from The Juilliard School. As an alumna of the Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program at Washington National Opera\, she has built a distinguished career as a pianist and assistant conductor. SUMMARY:Virtual Pilgrimage to Jerusalem (lunch included)
DESCRIPTION:Deepen your Lenten experience by participating in a virtual pilgrimage to Jerusalem. Led by Christian tour guide Canon Iyad Qumri from Jerusalem\, this event will be hosted by St. Mark’s. \nYour day will begin with a video welcome to Jerusalem from Archbishop Hosam Naoum\, as he would if you were visiting the Cathedral Close in person. Another video will give you a tour of the entire Cathedral Close\, including the guesthouse where you might stay on \npilgrimage—a guestroom\, the gardens\, and the dining and meeting rooms. From there\, you will tour the Old City of Jerusalem including the famous gates\, the Cardo\, the Western Wall\, the Temple Mount\, and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. As you progress on this journey\, you will be given time to pause\, reflect\, meditate\, and pray as you walk in the footsteps of and learn more about the ministry of Jesus. Your day will conclude “walking” the Via Dolorosa\, praying the Stations of the Cross. \nThis workshop is geared toward those who want to learn about pilgrimages to the Holy Land\, as well as those who have been on pilgrimage but want a refresher and/or an opportunity to reunite with fellow pilgrims. It will be especially rewarding for anyone who would like to go on pilgrimage but cannot afford the time or expense of a full trip. \nCheck-in will begin at 9:30 AM\, with the program starting at 10AM and ending at 4PM. Registration fee is $25\, which includes a Mediterranean lunch. All are welcome. You can register online.

Bishop Jeff and a group of other bishops have recently returned from a pilgrimage\, so we will be interested to hear about their experience and learn about the good work being done by our brothers and sisters in Christ in the Diocese of Jerusalem. \nEnjoy drinks as you mingle with fellow pilgrims\, followed by a presentation from Iyad and Bishop Jeff\, moderated by Fr. Peter. A Mediterranean buffet supper will be served following the presentation. \nCheck-in will begin at 6PM\, the program begins at 6:30PM and the event will end at 8PM. The cost for this special evening is $45/person. The event will be held in Morrill Hall.

DESCRIPTION:Due to weather\, this event has been rescheduled to Saturday\, April 26 at 6PM.  \n  \n  \nThe Friends of the Music at St. Mark’s New Canaan\, CT Presents  \nMusic of Benjamin Britten.  Saturday\, February 8\, 2025\, 5pm\, in the soaring mid-century modern St. Mark’s Episcopal Church\, 111 Oenoke Ridge\, New Canaan\, CT. \nPerformed by Trevor Scott\, tenor; with Eliana Barwinski\, mezzo-soprano; Susan LaFever\, French horn; all accompanied by Tomoko Nakayama\, pianist. \nTrevor Scott and friends will perform works of one of the most distinguished composers of the 20th century\, Benjamin Britten.  Included will be Canticle I – My beloved is mine\, and I am his (tenor & piano); Canticle II – Abraham and Isaac (tenor\, mezzo-soprano\, & piano)\, and the extraordinary Serenade (tenor\, horn\, & piano). \nGeneral Admission tickets $30 ($35 day of event) / Students $10  available HERE \n  \nLyric tenor Trevor Scott is currently in his second year of a Masters of Musical Arts degree in Early Music\, Art Song\, and Oratorio\, studying through a degree program sponsored by both the Yale School of Music and Yale Institute of Sacred Music. This past summer\, he was honored to make his professional international operatic debut\, singing with the Danish National Opera in the chorus of Bohuslav Martinů’s The Greek Passion. He was also thrilled to be the tenor soloist in Bach’s Mass in B Minor (presented by Yale’s Schola Cantorum and Juilliard’s J415)\, which toured across England and Scotland. \n   \nEliana Barwinski is a versatile mezzo-Soprano celebrated for her captivating performances and extensive musical expertise. Currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Religion and Music at Yale University’s Institute of Sacred Music\, Barwinski has completed two years of her DM in Voice Performance from Indiana University and graduated with an MM and BM in Voice Performance with honors from the University of Michigan. Eliana’s stage presence spans a variety of roles\, from Tebro in “O come e chiare e belle” to Alto soloist in Bach’s St. John’s Passion\, and has been showcased on both national and international stages. \n  \nHorn player Susan LaFever: New York City freelancer Susan LaFever was reviewed by the New York Times\, where her playing was called “bold and striking” with “a confident lyric quality”.  She is a frequent recitalist and soloist and has toured the U.S.\, Europe\, Mexico and Asia. Susan has given master classes at the University of Iowa\, Western Illinois University\, and UC\, Santa Barbara and has presented clinics and performances at several Northeast Horn Workshops\, the International Women’s Brass Conference\, the International Horn Symposium\, and the National Flute Association Convention. She has degrees in performance from Union College\, University of Nebraska\, and Manhattan School of Music. \n  \nPianist Tomoko Nakayama\, a native of Japan\, holds a Bachelor of Music in Harpsichord Performance and a Master of Music in Collaborative Piano from The Juilliard School. As an alumna of the Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program at Washington National Opera\, she has built a distinguished career as a pianist and assistant conductor. Her extensive experience includes collaborations with the International Vocal Art Institute in Israel\, Opera on the Avalon\, Tanglewood Music Center\, Wolf Trap Opera\, New York Lyric Opera Theatre\, Lyric Theater of Connecticut\, and Washington National Opera. \n  \nThe program is presented by the Friends of Music at St. Mark’s\, New Canaan\, CT. \nA light reception follows. \n  \nPurchase tickets here.
