SUMMARY:Episcopal 101: Newcomers & Inquirers
DESCRIPTION:Episcopal 101: For Newcomers and Inquirers\n\nThree sessions on The Episcopal Church & Anglican way of being Christian \nWednesdays | October 14\, October 21\, October 28 \n5:30–6:30PM in the Youth Room \n\nThe Episcopal Church is a member of the Worldwide Anglican Communion\, and part of one of the great Christian traditions. It is rooted in Scripture and the Sacraments and shaped by centuries of common prayer. This series\, led by the clergy of St. Mark’s\, introduces that tradition to anyone who might be new to St. Mark’s\, curious about what Episcopalians believe and practice\, or interested in Confirmation or Reception. It is also open to all long-time Episcopalians who may desire a back-to-basics refresher course about the church.  \n1. The Bible in The Episcopal Church – Wednesday\, October 14 \nScripture is at the center of our worship and theology. This session explores how the Bible came to be\, what it means to call these writings the Word of God\, and how Episcopalians read Scripture alongside reason\, experience\, and tradition. \n2. The Sacramental Life of the Church: Baptism and Eucharist – Wednesday\, October 21 \nThe two great sacraments are the foundation of the church’s life. This session traces Baptism and Eucharist from their origins in the ancient church to their place in Episcopal worship today and explores what it means to live out one’s own baptism\, and to gather around the altar as the body of Christ. \n3. Prayer in the life of the Church – Wednesday\, October 28 \nThis session will explore the enormous subject of Prayer: What is it? How does it work? What are some of the many forms of prayer in the life of a Christian\, and in the life of the Church? \nRegistration is required.  \nRegister online or call the Church Office at 203.966.4515. Sign up by Sunday\, October 11.

SUMMARY:Sing Sing Prison Visitation
DESCRIPTION:The October 13th visitation is at full capacity. If you are interested in future Sing Sing Prison visits\, please reach out to Beth Ralston to reserve a future spot at bralston@stmarksnewcanaan.org or call the Church Office at 203.966.4515. \n\nThe Frederick Douglass Project for Justice seeks to change the public’s perception of the criminal justice system by becoming proximate with the humanity of incarcerated people. The program operates across multiple states\, offering powerful\, face-to-face conversations between visitors and those incarcerated. These visits go beyond observation—they are opportunities to listen\, connect\, and reflect in a way that fosters true understanding. \nWe have 15 spots reserved for St. Mark’s to visit the Sing Sing Correctional Facility on Tuesday\, September 15\, from 12;30-4PM. \nSing Sing Correctional Facility is located at 354 Hunter Street\, Ossining\, NY. The prison is built into the hillside along the Hudson River\, adjacent to the Metro-North railroad tracks. \nDuring the visit\, you will have the opportunity to interact directly with incarcerated individuals. Please follow the directions of staff at all times. To help make this a meaningful experience for everyone\, we ask that you: \n\nListen with an open heart.\nMake eye contact.\nRemember that everyone has something to teach and something to learn.\nTreat every person with dignity and respect.\n\nImmediately following the visit\, you are invited to a debrief and social time at a nearby restaurant. If your schedule allows\, we encourage you to stay. It is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the experience\, learn more about the Frederick Douglass Project\, and get to know members of the leadership team. If you have any questions\, please do not hesitate to reach out. \nTo learn more about the Frederick Douglas Project\, click here.

SUMMARY:Church School “Teach & Sing”
DESCRIPTION:Dear Church School families\, \nThank you for the opportunity to partner with you in your child’s spiritual journey for the 2026–2027 program year. We’re looking forward to a wonderful year together! \nOur Church School classes meet every Sunday during the 10AM worship service. Childcare is also available for children who are not yet elementary school age. \nWe hope to see your children in Morrill Hall this Sunday at 10AM for “Teach and Sing” with Ned Tipton\, Director of Music Ministry. \nOur Church School curricula are carefully designed and selected for specific age groups. Please have your children attend the class for their grade so they can have the most engaging experience with their peers. \nKINDERGARTEN – Godly Play 1 \nGodly Play is a Montessori-based approach that helps children become aware of God’s presence in the world through visual storytelling. In part one\, children are introduced to the Old and New Testaments in chronological order. \nGRADES 1–2 – Godly Play 2 \nBuilding on year one\, children hear a more in-depth telling of the stories of our faith\, including an introduction to the lives of the prophets and Jesus’ apostles. \nGRADES 3–4 – Holy Moly \nOver a two-year cycle\, Holy Moly follows the arc of the Bible from Genesis through the early church. Children watch an animated\, narration-free version of the day’s Bible story and then interpret and explore it together through group discussion. \nGRADES 5–7 – Meet in the Middle \nThe Connect curriculum helps pre-teens make further sense of the Bible by revisiting its greatest stories and uncovering major biblical themes. Teachers lead age-appropriate conversations about how these stories relate to our lives and the challenges of living out our faith at home and school.

Through weekly meetings\, educational events\, and community outreach\, we offer connection\, compassion\, and a safe place to share the journey. \n“My Pledge as a Member of my Community: I pledge that I will reach out to someone I know who is struggling. I will let the person know I’m thinking about them. I will tell the person I’m available to talk. I will take the initiative\, and NOT wait for the person to come to me. I will listen to their story. If I do speak\, I will have words of support and hope for their future.” \n
