He has many years of personal pilgrimage experience as well\, and upon being named Dean Emeritus of Canterbury in 2023\, Robert and his partner\, Fletcher Banner\, have been spearheading the development of Casa Anglicana\, a new pilgrim center in Santiago de Campostela\, Spain. The center welcomes pilgrims from all over the world\, particularly Episcopal Anglicans\, for overnight stays when they arrive in Santiago. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a new reading and discussion group based on the writings of Thomas Merton (1915-1968)\, a Trappist monk and one of the great spiritual figures of our time. “Mondays with Merton” will be led by Fr. John and Emma Kennedy\, PhD\, and will meet on Mondays from 7-8pm in the St. Mark’s library. Emma and John met through their shared interest in Thomas Merton and led a Merton reading group together while students at Yale Divinity School. They are excited to bring this offering to St. Mark’s and to share their love of Merton with the community. \nWe will read Conjectures of a Guilty Bystander (1966)\, a series of notes\, opinions\, experiences and reflections in which Merton examines some of the most urgent questions of our age. With his characteristic forcefulness and candor\, he brings readers face-to-face with such provocative and controversial issues as the “death of God\,” politics\, modern life and values\, and racial strife–issues that are as relevant today as they were in the 1960s. \nEach session will begin with 10 minutes of silent contemplative prayer to ground ourselves in the Spirit and open our hearts before engaging our minds. Participants are encouraged to read the first half of Part One (pp. 1-26) before the first meeting. DESCRIPTION:The New Canaan Men’s Club was founded in 1977 by a group of men who met regularly at the Y to play racquetball. \nWhile we have grown quite a bit since then\, friendship and fellowship remain core to our Club. We meet on Friday mornings in Morrill Hall at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church\, but we are both nonreligious and nonpartisan. \nOur Members come from New Canaan and surrounding communities. They bring diverse experiences from their careers\, talents\, travels\, and lives. What brings us together is the variety of activities and interests Club Members share. Each Friday meeting has a speaker covering an interesting and often timely topic so we are constantly learning

SUMMARY:A Men's Retreat: Building Faith in a Troubled World
DESCRIPTION:Escape the noise of everyday life and join us for a men’s retreat focused on fortifying your faith. This weekend will be filled with powerful teachings\, heartfelt worship\, and opportunities for personal reflection. Strengthen your spiritual foundation and forge new friendships with men who share your journey. Together\, we can build a faith that stands strong in any storm. The retreat is led by The Very Rev. Andrew McGowan\, Australian scholar of early Christianity\, McFadden Professor of Anglican Studies at Yale Divinity School\, and Dean and President of the Berkeley Divinity School at Yale. \nMusic for the retreat will be provided by our own maestro and Director of Music Ministry\, Ned Tipton. \nThis two-day retreat is $225 and includes all meals. The retreat begins with a welcome reception at 4PM on Friday\, October 25\, and ends at 4PM on Saturday\, October 26. The beautiful Convent of St. Birgitta (https://www.bridgettines-usa.org/) is right on the Long Island Sound\, just a short 15-minute drive from downtown New Canaan!
