Elizabeth in the Church on Thursdays\, beginning February 26\, from 12:15-12:45 for a brief reflection\, instruction\, and 20-minutes of group Centering Prayer. \nCentering Prayer is a Christian silent practice of releasing thoughts as they come\, regardless of content\, during a period of 20 minutes. The fruit of the practice is a deeper level of awareness of God’s indwelling presence\, and spending time resting in that presence. This practice of ‘self-emptying’ (Philippians 2-11) aligns us with the self-emptying love that forms the core of Jesus’s own self-understanding and way of life. \nNo need to sign up. Please arrive on time in order to enter into silence as a group.

DESCRIPTION:The New Canaan Men’s Club was founded in 1977 by a group of men who met regularly at the Y to play racquetball. \nWhile we have grown quite a bit since then\, friendship and fellowship remain core to our Club. We meet on Friday mornings in Morrill Hall at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church\, but we are both nonreligious and nonpartisan. \nOur Members come from New Canaan and surrounding communities. They bring diverse experiences from their careers\, talents\, travels\, and lives. What brings us together is the variety of activities and interests Club Members share. DESCRIPTION:Led by the Rev. John Kennedy \nMondays from 7-8PM in the Youth Room\, February 23-March 30 \nLent is a journey through wilderness and shadow\, temptation and trial\, and the dark places of the heart and soul. It is also a journey sustained by the Spirit and Word of God\, the mercy of God\, and our longing for God\, which lead us to new life in Christ. Leonard Cohen (1934–2016)\, the celebrated songwriter and poet\, was intimately familiar with this interior terrain\, and so is an ideal guide for this pilgrimage. \nCohen was a master of the inner life\, of longing as a pathway to the divine\, and of the blessedness of brokenness. A deeply religious man—an observant Jew who studied Zen for decades and had a lifelong love for Jesus—Cohen’s poetry and music are saturated with spiritual and scriptural language and themes. \nWe will gather around Cohen’s prayers\, poetry\, and songs as a way of deepening our love and knowledge of God\, and of the divine love and mercy that are always given. Throughout the season\, Cohen’s Book of Mercy—a collection of psalm-like prayers published in 1984—will serve as our prayer book\, alongside close listening to some of his most devotional songs\, including “Hallelujah.” \nRegister here \nA playlist and syllabus will be shared about a week before the class begins.

DESCRIPTION:Join Rev. Elizabeth in the Church on Thursdays\, beginning February 26\, from 12:15-12:45 for a brief reflection\, instruction\, and 20-minutes of group Centering Prayer. \nCentering Prayer is a Christian silent practice of releasing thoughts as they come\, regardless of content\, during a period of 20 minutes. The fruit of the practice is a deeper level of awareness of God’s indwelling presence\, and spending time resting in that presence. This practice of ‘self-emptying’ (Philippians 2-11) aligns us with the self-emptying love that forms the core of Jesus’s own self-understanding and way of life. \nNo need to sign up. Please arrive on time in order to enter into silence as a group.

DESCRIPTION:The New Canaan Men’s Club was founded in 1977 by a group of men who met regularly at the Y to play racquetball. \nWhile we have grown quite a bit since then\, friendship and fellowship remain core to our Club. We meet on Friday mornings in Morrill Hall at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church\, but we are both nonreligious and nonpartisan. \nOur Members come from New Canaan and surrounding communities. They bring diverse experiences from their careers\, talents\, travels\, and lives. What brings us together is the variety of activities and interests Club Members share. Explore our website and calendar to see the many and varied activities that are available to all Members. Each Friday meeting has a speaker covering an interesting and often timely topic so we are constantly learning
