SUMMARY:Open Doors Pantry Drive
DESCRIPTION:St. Mark’s is partnering with Open Doors of Norwalk to help close the summer meal gap for local families. Summer is one of the hardest stretches for food-insecure households\, as school meal programs pause and pantry shelves run low when need is highest. \nThroughout the month\, please drop off non-perishable food donations in the bins located in the narthex and outside Morrill Hall. \nSpaghetti\, spaghetti sauce\, peanut butter\, rice (2lb bags)\, mac & cheese\, canned vegetables\, vegetable oil\, sugar (2 or 4 lb bags)\, cereal\, oatmeal\, coffee & tea\, spices\, fresh fruit and vegetables\, salad dressings\, condiments\, jelly (grape or strawberry)\, dried beans (red or black)\, canned beans (red or black)\, fruit cups\, canned fruit\, canned tuna and chicken\, all-purpose flour\, pancake mix and syrup\, cream of wheat\, juice or juice boxes\, dry or shelf-stable milk\, reusable grocery bags. Low-sodium and sugar-free options are appreciated. Regular sizes better as many homes have limited storage and easier to carry if taking public transportation. \nIf you’d like to volunteer to drive our collected items over to Open Doors\, please be in touch: 203-966-4515 or bralston@stmarksnewcanaan.org.

SUMMARY:NC Parent Support Group
DESCRIPTION:10th Annual Addiction Awareness Vigil – New Canaan Parent Support Group\nThis outdoor event features live music\, tributes\, recovery testimonials\, resources\, and a candlelight vigil led by local faith community leaders. Live music starts at 6 pm\, with testimonials and candle lighting starting at 7pm. Rain date: Wednesday\, September 2. \n6 South Avenue\, New Canaan. Town parking available at both Morse Court and Park Street lots. \n\n\n\nWhy a Vigil?\n\n\n\n\nThe Vigil was started in tribute to all the people who died too soon because of the addiction epidemic\, including its Founder Paul’s son Evan. The event has become a celebration of recovery\, with courageous speakers sharing stories of redemption and hope. Faith community leaders join to lead all of us in a candle lighting ceremony. Our goal is to help each other heal\, and to save lives by sharing stories. To learn more and reserve your Vigil candle\, click here. \n\n\n\nNew Canaan Parent Support Group believe families are a powerful part of the recovery process. It supports parents and caregivers walking alongside loved ones facing substance use and mental health challenges. Through weekly meetings\, educational events\, and community outreach\, we offer connection\, compassion\, and a safe place to share the journey. \n“My Pledge as a Member of my Community: I pledge that I will reach out to someone I know who is struggling. I will let the person know I’m thinking about them. I will tell the person I’m available to talk. I will take the initiative\, and NOT wait for the person to come to me. I will listen to their story. If I do speak\, I will have words of support and hope for their future.”

SUMMARY:Sing Sing Prison Visitation
DESCRIPTION:The September 15th visitation is at full capacity. If you are interested in future Sing Sing Prison visits\, please reach out to Beth Ralston to reserve a future spot at bralston@stmarksnewcanaan.org or call the Church Office at 203.966.4515. \nThe Frederick Douglass Project for Justice seeks to change the public’s perception of the criminal justice system by becoming proximate with the humanity of incarcerated people. The program operates across multiple states\, offering powerful\, face-to-face conversations between visitors and those incarcerated. These visits go beyond observation—they are opportunities to listen\, connect\, and reflect in a way that fosters true understanding. \nWe have 15 spots reserved for St. Mark’s to visit the Sing Sing Correctional Facility on Tuesday\, September 15\, from 12;30-4PM. \nSing Sing Correctional Facility is located at 354 Hunter Street\, Ossining\, NY. The prison is built into the hillside along the Hudson River\, adjacent to the Metro-North railroad tracks. \nDuring the visit\, you will have the opportunity to interact directly with incarcerated individuals. Please follow the directions of staff at all times. To help make this a meaningful experience for everyone\, we ask that you: \n\nListen with an open heart.\nMake eye contact.\nRemember that everyone has something to teach and something to learn.\nTreat every person with dignity and respect.\n\nImmediately following the visit\, you are invited to a debrief and social time at a nearby restaurant. If your schedule allows\, we encourage you to stay. It is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the experience\, learn more about the Frederick Douglass Project\, and get to know members of the leadership team. If you have any questions\, please do not hesitate to reach out. \nTo learn more about the Frederick Douglas Project\, click here.
