SUMMARY:Sing Sing Prison Visitation
DESCRIPTION:The October 13th visitation is at full capacity. If you are interested in future Sing Sing Prison visits\, please reach out to Beth Ralston to reserve a future spot at bralston@stmarksnewcanaan.org or call the Church Office at 203.966.4515. \n\nThe Frederick Douglass Project for Justice seeks to change the public’s perception of the criminal justice system by becoming proximate with the humanity of incarcerated people. The program operates across multiple states\, offering powerful\, face-to-face conversations between visitors and those incarcerated. These visits go beyond observation—they are opportunities to listen\, connect\, and reflect in a way that fosters true understanding. \nWe have 15 spots reserved for St. Mark’s to visit the Sing Sing Correctional Facility on Tuesday\, September 15\, from 12;30-4PM. \nSing Sing Correctional Facility is located at 354 Hunter Street\, Ossining\, NY. The prison is built into the hillside along the Hudson River\, adjacent to the Metro-North railroad tracks. \nDuring the visit\, you will have the opportunity to interact directly with incarcerated individuals. Please follow the directions of staff at all times. To help make this a meaningful experience for everyone\, we ask that you: \n\nListen with an open heart.\nMake eye contact.\nRemember that everyone has something to teach and something to learn.\nTreat every person with dignity and respect.\n\nImmediately following the visit\, you are invited to a debrief and social time at a nearby restaurant. If your schedule allows\, we encourage you to stay. It is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the experience\, learn more about the Frederick Douglass Project\, and get to know members of the leadership team. If you have any questions\, please do not hesitate to reach out. \nTo learn more about the Frederick Douglas Project\, click here.

SUMMARY:Episcopal 101: Newcomers & Inquirers
DESCRIPTION:Episcopal 101: For Newcomers and Inquirers\n\nThree sessions on The Episcopal Church & Anglican way of being Christian \nWednesdays | October 14\, October 21\, October 28 \n5:30–6:30PM in the Youth Room \n\nThe Episcopal Church is a member of the Worldwide Anglican Communion\, and part of one of the great Christian traditions. It is rooted in Scripture and the Sacraments and shaped by centuries of common prayer. This series\, led by the clergy of St. Mark’s\, introduces that tradition to anyone who might be new to St. Mark’s\, curious about what Episcopalians believe and practice\, or interested in Confirmation or Reception. It is also open to all long-time Episcopalians who may desire a back-to-basics refresher course about the church.  \n1. The Bible in The Episcopal Church – Wednesday\, October 14 \nScripture is at the center of our worship and theology. This session explores how the Bible came to be\, what it means to call these writings the Word of God\, and how Episcopalians read Scripture alongside reason\, experience\, and tradition. \n2. The Sacramental Life of the Church: Baptism and Eucharist – Wednesday\, October 21 \nThe two great sacraments are the foundation of the church’s life. This session traces Baptism and Eucharist from their origins in the ancient church to their place in Episcopal worship today and explores what it means to live out one’s own baptism\, and to gather around the altar as the body of Christ. \n3. Prayer in the life of the Church – Wednesday\, October 28 \nThis session will explore the enormous subject of Prayer: What is it? How does it work? What are some of the many forms of prayer in the life of a Christian\, and in the life of the Church? \nRegistration is required.  \nRegister online or call the Church Office at 203.966.4515. Sign up by Sunday\, October 11.
