We will gather in Morrill Hall after the 10AM service. The nursery will remain open for the littlest ones and the older children will gather downstairs in the Youth Room for a movie and a snack. Emma and John met through their shared interest in Thomas Merton and led a Merton reading group together while students at Yale Divinity School. They are excited to bring this offering to St. Mark’s and to share their love of Merton with the community. \nWe will read Conjectures of a Guilty Bystander (1966)\, a series of notes\, opinions\, experiences and reflections in which Merton examines some of the most urgent questions of our age. With his characteristic forcefulness and candor\, he brings readers face-to-face with such provocative and controversial issues as the “death of God\,” politics\, modern life and values\, and racial strife–issues that are as relevant today as they were in the 1960s. \nEach session will begin with 10 minutes of silent contemplative prayer to ground ourselves in the Spirit and open our hearts before engaging our minds. DESCRIPTION:Join the Rev. Robert Willis\, Dean Emeritus of Canterbury Cathedral\, for a Sunday Forum at 11:45AM in the St. Mark’s Library on “Pilgrimage as a Spiritual Practice.” As dean\, Rev. Willis welcomed thousands of visitors every year from all over the world to Canterbury\, which has been a significant Christian pilgrimage destination for many centuries. He has many years of personal pilgrimage experience as well\, and upon being named Dean Emeritus of Canterbury in 2023\, Robert and his partner\, Fletcher Banner\, have been spearheading the development of Casa Anglicana\, a new pilgrim center in Santiago de Campostela\, Spain. The center welcomes pilgrims from all over the world\, particularly Episcopal Anglicans\, for overnight stays when they arrive in Santiago. This forum will explore the history and meaningful impact of Christian pilgrimage on spiritual formation. No need to sign up\, just come!

All are welcome to register! \n9:00  Gathering and Fellowship \n9:30-11:30  Talk and Workshop \nElisa Bulgrin is a New Canaan mom\, St. Marks parishioner\, and ‘farmer/florist’.  In 2016\, she and her husband John moved to what they’ve come to call Longfield Farm\, where they’ve since welcomed three children\, created a series of gardens and\, now\, where Elisa runs a small business of the same name.  Coming to flowers from the garden\, seasonality and sustainability are core to Elisa’s work\, from growing to arranging flowers\, and Longfield Farm’s varied offerings reflect this approach as well as all the passions and sensibilities that colour ‘country life’ at Longfield. \nRegister here or by contacting the church office so that we have enough materials for all attendees.
