2010 St. Mark's Vestry
The Vestry of St. Mark’s, as in all Episcopal churches, is the governing board consisting of the clergy, the wardens – senior and junior, the clerk and treasurer and lay members. Our vestry consists of twelve lay members, four of which are elected each year by the congregation at the Annual Meeting, to serve a 3-year term. The Rector presides at the monthly meetings of the vestry (or, in his/her absence, the Wardens), which handles the parish's business and temporal matters and serves as a council of advice for the Rector. A vestry serves the parish in the same representative manner as congress serves the public.
At our Annual Meeting, we elect vestry officers and members, along with delegates to diocesan convention and deanery meetings. We also elect a nominating committee for future parish elections. Our parish bylaws call for contested elections and voters must meet eligibility guidelines. See election outcome below. We do not allow for absentee votes, so those eligible to vote must be present to cast a vote.
