Monday Morning Class
NurtureShock: New Thinking About Children
The Rev. Anne Richards will lead a parenting class at St. Mark’s this fall. The group will meet each Monday morning between September 21 and December 7 from 9:15 – 10:30am in the Library.
We will read the recently published NurtureShock: New Thinking About Children by Po Bronson and Ashley Merryman, who are award-winning authors of numerous articles and books on the art of parenting. Copies of the book will be available in the Lion’s Den in September.
We will discuss such topics as the inverse power of praise, children’s need for sleep, race, lying, sibling relationships, teen rebellion, and self-control. The class will be informal and conversational and all interested in the topic are warmly invited to attend, either each week or occasionally.
The Rev. Anne Richards is Senior Assistant at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. She has worked with children and families for over 20 years in parishes, schools, and hospitals. Before coming to St. Mark’s, she was chaplain at Grace Church School in Manhattan, an independent Episcopal school, where she taught Scripture to 3rd graders and 5th graders, and ethics and world literature to 8th graders.
