Position Description for
Assistant for Youth and Children’s Ministry
The Assistant for Youth and Children’s Ministry offers compelling spiritual formation and pastoral outreach to parish youth and their families. This full-time, ordained position—deacon or priest—reports to the Rector and participates in weekly staff meetings.
In particular, the Assistant for Youth and Children’s Ministry:
· Leads an outstanding EYC ministry for high school students that addresses adolescent spiritual and moral formation, discipleship, community service, and fellowship;
· Oversees the spiritual and moral development of middle-school students, including intense confirmation preparation for 7th and 8th grade students;
· Works with Director of Religious Education to support church school teachers, train them in Godly Play curriculum, and provide related pastoral care to young families;
· Coordinates week-long annual high school trip to Taize, France, and provides core leadership for the parish Sunday 6:00 p.m. Taize Eucharist (September – May);
· Provides preaching, liturgical and spiritual formation leadership in the parish and incorporates youth into the community’s worship life;
· Serves as parish liaison to diocesan and local ecumenical youth ministries;
· Serves as member of parish Outreach Commission to coordinate EYC community service with parish outreach ministry;
· Provides regular and timely communication material regarding youth ministry for dissemination to the parish;
· Officiates at Tuesday morning chapel services for St. Mark’s Nursery School; and
· Collaborates with other staff to create synergy between youth ministry and other priorities of parish life.
A recently ordained minister or someone completing the ordination process in the Episcopal Church may be the ideal candidate for this position. The incumbent receives weekly supervision and participates fully in the comprehensive program planning for the parish.
