Confirmation Classes for 7th and 8th Graders

Our seventh and eighth graders attend class each Wednesday evening, from 7:30-8:30 during the school year to prepare for confirmation.  The seventh graders spend the year in an exploration of the Bible, both Old and New Testaments.  They are learning the stories, the structure and the images of our holy scripture.  As they learn the texts, the students are encouraged to understand how these ancient stories speak to their very current lives.

The eighth graders begin to explore the Christian and Episcopal tradition through an investigation of our Book of Common Prayer and by learning some of the history of our tradition.  The 8th grade class has three major thematic components: personal call and devotion, the meaning of the church as a called community, and the interaction of the personal and communal religion with a diverse world.  The year will encompass ideas of prayer and embodiment, Eucharist and family, ethics and hospitality.  For a schedule of class topics, click here.

Nancy McSorley   (click for class specs) leads the 7th grade confirmation class which meets in the newly renovated Undercroft located below Morrill Hall and may be accessed by the stairways on either side of Morrill Hall or entered from the back of the Church complex. Come down the ramp to the left of the loading dock.

The 8th grade class meets in the Education Center - formerly the Double Classroom.

Also, please understand that part of the discernment process for receiving confirmation is regular church attendance.  This is part of the confirmation requirement.  Do be in touch with the Mother Carol Hoidra, if you have to make schedule alterations.
